5 Ways to Soothe Your Inner Child When You're Triggered
Breathe: Focus on your breath by bringing your awareness to it and taking deep breaths for 3-5 minutes
Safe Space: Step away from the situation/place that triggered you and go to a safe or neutral space. This could look like going into your closet or bathroom where you can be alone, stepping into the backyard or going for a walk.
Affirmations: Tell your inner child "You're safe, I'm here for you. I'm going to keep you safe". Repeat these statements several times, as often as needed.
Write: Write a letter to your inner child, and ask how she’s feeling and what she needs.
Share: Share your experience with a safe person. Talking can be one way to process how you're feeling and what you need.
